William Raymond Wolfe, 94, of Camillus, passed away Tuesday at Auburn Community Hospital. Born to Elisha Kenneth and Edna Mae Oplinger Wolfe in Nanticoke, PA, he moved around from NYC to Long Island, then to Emporium, PA, before settling in Camillus in 1956. A graduate of Babylon High School, William received his Bachelor's Degree in Management Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. He was employed for 38 years as an advisory systems engineer at GTE, spending 34 years of that time at the GTE Data Center in Camillus, before retiring in 1990. A U.S. Navy veteran of WWII, William was a member and former commander of the American Legion Knifetown Post 1540. He was also a member of Robinson Elmwood United Church, having served as treasurer for 10 years, a member of the Camillus Elks Lodge #2367, and a charter member of the Camillus Ski Association.
William's wife of 67 years, the former Eileen E. Durnell, passed away shortly after him on December 19.
William was predeceased by his parents, Elisha Kenneth and Edna; and brothers, Harry H. and Kenneth.
Surviving are his daughters, Nancy (Dale Fuller) Wolfe Fuller of Jordan and Carol Jean Sappe of Poughkeepsie; son, Kenneth Sherman of Lexington, KY; grandchildren, Kaitlyn and Christopher (Michelle) Fuller, and Adam and Alexander Sappe; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
A joint funeral service for William and his wife will be held Wednesday, January 4 at 10 a.m. in Robinson Elmwood United Church.
William will be laid to rest in Onondaga County Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Syracuse.
