William Robert LaShomb, 36, of Bridgeport, passed away Sunday at home. Born and raised in Massena, Billy moved to the Syracuse area in 2008. He was a graduate of Massena Central High School and was a US Army veteran, having served in Iraq. Billy “Bomber” was a detective, employed with the Syracuse Police Department for 13 years and received a number of commendations, including the department’s highest award. He enjoyed boating, fishing, hunting and 4-wheeling. Above all, he loved to spend time with his family and friends, especially with his sons, Billy and Mason.
Billy was predeceased by his maternal grandfather, William LaShomb; and paternal grandparents, Franz and Agnes Herbstler.
Surviving are his wife of eight years, Jamie; sons, Billy and Mason, all of Bridgeport; mother, Tammy Herbstler of Brasher Falls; father, Klaus Herbstler of Massena; brothers, Ryan Herbstler of Massena and Nicholas (Marissa) Herbstler of McGuire Air Force Base, NJ; maternal grandmother, Barbara LaShomb of Massena; and many nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends may call Friday, October 16 from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Holy Family Church, 127 Chapel Dr., Syracuse. Face coverings are required.
A funeral Service will be celebrated Saturday, October 17 at 10 a.m. in Holy Family Church, 127 Chapel Dr., Syracuse. Services will be live streamed via Holy Family Church website. Private burial will be in Onondaga County Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Syracuse.
