William “Mr. Moose” E. Davern, 82, of Fairmount, passed away Sunday, September 13, 2020 at Upstate University Hospital, surrounded by his loving family. A man with a personality larger than life itself, “Eddie,” as he was known to his immediate family, was a lifetime resident of the Syracuse area. He was a 1956 graduate of CBA and 1973 graduate of SU. Bill was an Air Force veteran. He was employed by General Electric Co. for 34 years before retiring in 1995 and worked as a substitute teacher in the West Genesee Central School District and BOCES. A communicant of Holy Family Church, Bill taught religious education for 25 years. He was a member of the VFW Post 1540 and was the 3rd Ward Councilor for the Town of Camillus for many years. Bill so enjoyed talking to the constituents of his ward and playing Santa Claus for the community. He was an avid supporter of the West Genesee Fine Arts Department and could often be found sitting on the 50-yard line cheering for the “Wildcat” Marching Band. Above all, he loved spending time with his family.
William was predeceased by his son, David Michael, in 1963.
Surviving are his wife of 62 years, the former Alice Bandru; daughter, Maureen (Jayme) Colasanti; sons, William H. (Patricia) and Jeffrey (Nancy); sister, Barbara (Herman) Klapproth; brother, John (Joanne); grandsons, Shawn and Matthew Davern; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Relatives and friends may call Thursday, September 17 from 3 to 6 p.m. at Holy Family Church, 127 Chapel Dr., Syracuse.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday, September 18 at 10 a.m. in the church. William will be laid to rest in Assumption Cemetery, Syracuse.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the West Genesee Fine Arts Department, 5201 W. Genesee St., Camillus, NY 13031.
