William “Bill” Green, 88, of Camillus, passed away Wednesday at the VA Medical Center. Born in Boston, MA, he lived in Scituate, MA until enlisting in the US Navy in 1951. A 22-year veteran, Bill was a hospital medical corpsman serving at sea in both the Korean War and Vietnam War. His service took him to Puerto Rico and Iceland, among many other places. He rose through the ranks to Chief Petty Officer and his final duty station was in Philadelphia, PA. After retiring in 1975, Bill settled in Scipio Center with his family, fulfilling his dream of owning a farm. He was a world traveler and loved nature, birdwatching, gardening, reading and spending time with his family. In 2003, having enjoyed their dream, Bill and his wife moved to Camillus to enjoy their final retirement years.
Bill was predeceased by his wife of 53 years, Inge, in 2016; parents, Walter and Winifred (O'Leary) Green; sister, Elaine (Green) Altieri; and brother, Robert P. Green.
Surviving are his daughter, Katherine (Green) Tuft of Camillus; son, Robert Green of New York, NY; sister, Diane Kennedy of Florida; and brothers, Joe of Massachusetts, Paul of Florida, Richard (Judy) of Massachusetts and Donnie (Bea) Green of Massachusetts.
Relatives and friends may call Monday, February 26 from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at St. Joseph’s Church, 5600 West Genesee St., Camillus.
A funeral Mass will follow at 12:30 p.m. in the church. William will be laid to rest alongside his wife, Inge, in St. Mary's Cemetery, Greenwich, CT.
