William “Bill” A. Scutt, 70, of Lakeland, passed away peacefully at home Friday, September 14, 2012, after a courageous 15-month battle with pancreatic cancer. A lifetime resident of the Solvay/Lakeland area, he was born Wednesday, August 26, 1942 and was a 1960 graduate of Solvay High School. Bill was a Navy veteran stationed at Guantanamo Bay. He retired in 1990 after 22 years with the Syracuse Fire Department and also worked in maintenance at Rite-Aid for over 25 years. A communicant of St. Patrick's Church, he was a member of the Navy Seabee Veterans of America Island X-19 and the Syracuse Fire Fighters, Local 280. He enjoyed NASCAR, taking cruises and woodworking. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. Bill was predeceased by his parents, Ralph Edward Scutt and Margaret Mary Kinney Scutt; and brothers, G. Edward, Donald, David and James. Surviving are his wife of 46 years, the former Donna Graser; children, Kelly (Mike Woodridge), Kim Bishop and John (Julie), all of Lakeland; grandchildren, Adam and Emily Bishop and Jonathan and Samantha Scutt; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. The family would like to extend their gratitude to Drs. Seth and Montoya at Upstate’s Regional Oncology Center. Relatives and friends may call Sunday, September 16 from noon to 3 p.m. at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus. Funeral services will be Monday, September 17 at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home. Bill will be laid to rest in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Lakeland. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Ralph E. Scutt Memorial Scholarship at Solvay High School, 121 Gettman Rd., Syracuse, NY 13209.
