William J. Bachar, 85, of Camillus, passed away Saturday, February 13, 2010 at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center. Born in Skaneateles on Wednesday, July 23, 1924, he was the son of John Bachar and Susie Otruba Bachar. He was a lifetime resident of the Camillus area. He was a 1942 graduate of Marcellus High School and attended Syracuse University. William was vice president and sales manager for Emkay Candle Co., retiring in 1986 after more than 40 years. He was also formerly employed by Mark Products Advertising Specialties for 10 years. William was an Army combat veteran of World War II and member of the Disabled American Veterans and Military Order of the Purple Heart. He was also a volunteer at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center for 16 years and founding member of St. Michael's Lutheran Church. Surviving are his wife of 63 years, the former Jane E. Malcolm; daughters and sons-in-law, Linda B. and Tom Mahan of Syracuse and Barbara G. and Fred Risser of Canandaigua; sister and brother-in-law, Dorothy and Wallace Emond of Westvale; granddaughters, Jennifer (Jeff) Windsor of Oswego, Emily Risser of Philadelphia, Alison Risser of Liverpool, Katherine Mahan of Fairmount; and great-grandson, Ian Windsor. Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, February 18 in St. Michael’s Lutheran Church with Rev. Janet Fechner-Pelletier officiating. Relatives and friends may call Wednesday, February 17 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus. William will be laid to rest in Greenlawn Cemetery, Warners. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Michael's Lutheran Church Memorial Fund, 5108 W. Genesee St., Camillus, NY 13031.
