William J. Kocher, 74, of Camillus, passed away Tuesday, October 18, 2016 at Upstate University Hospital at Community General. Born in Syracuse, he was a graduate of Vocational High School and was an Army veteran.
Bill retired from the Syracuse Police Department after 24 years of service and worked for 20 years with Syracuse University Mail Department. He was a communicant of Holy Family Church and volunteered as a cafeteria monitor at Holy Family School. An avid bicyclist, Bill participated in NY State and National competitions including, the International Police Olympics and Senior Olympics.
Bill also was an avid fisherman and hunter. He enjoyed SU sports and NASCAR but above all, loved spending time with his family, especially summer vacations in the Adirondacks with his grandchildren.
There will never be another husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend like Bill.
Bill was predeceased by his parents, Emil and Catharine Kocher; and son, Timothy James Kocher.
Surviving are his wife, the former Carolyn Shenandoah; daughter, Maria Kocher-Chawgo of Camillus; son, William (Suzette) Kocher of Marcellus; sister, Mary (Tom) Ryan of Elbridge; brothers, Emil (Mary Beth) Kocher and Paul Kocher, both of Westvale and Phillip (Mary Lou) Kocher of Liverpool; grandchildren, Camryn, Kara and Connor Chawgo, Sean, Emily and Olivia Kocher; special nephew, Brandon DeCaire of Myrtle Beach, SC; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Relatives and friends may call Sunday, October 23 from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, October 24 at 10 a.m. in Holy Family Church. Bill will be laid to rest in Onondaga Valley Cemetery.
