William J. Shanahan, 66, of Syracuse, passed away Tuesday, July 12, 2011 at St. Joseph’s Hospital Health Center. Born in Syracuse on Saturday, August 19, 1944, he lived in Chittenango and Camillus. Bill worked at Mac-law Tool and Aircraft Parts for 25 years and was also employed with Aerus Electrolux. He enjoyed woodworking, photography and gardening. Bill was very proud of his Irish heritage and loved attending Irish festivals. He also enjoyed the NY State Fair. Bill was predeceased by his son, James Alan Shanahan; and father, William Shanahan. Surviving are his life partner, Suzanne Yackel; daughters, Kari Shanahan of Canastota and Kimberly Raymond of Chittenango; sons and daughters-in-law, William and Maryann of Bridgeport and Chad and Corinne of Rochester; stepson, David (Kristin) Yackel of Sarasota, Florida; stepdaughter, Patti (Brian) Courtney of Camillus; his mother, Charlotte Burt Shanahan of Syracuse; sister and brother-in-law, Nancy and Rodney Martin of Florida; brother, Robert Shanahan of East Syracuse; 10 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews; and former wife, Sharon Lord Shanahan of Canastota. Relatives and friends may call Thursday, July 14 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus. Services will be Friday, July 15 at 11:30 a.m. at the funeral home.
