William J. “Cowboy” O'Hern, 95, of Fairmount, passed away Friday, May 22, 2009 at home. Born in Syracuse on Saturday, November 22, 1913, he was the son of William Joseph O’Hern and Elisabeth Veronica Fahey O’Hern. He lived in Fairmount for 57 years. William was formerly employed by BOCES Onondaga-Madison, retiring in 1975, and Genesee Brewing Co. He was an Army veteran of World War II. He was a former volunteer fireman with the Fairmount Fire Dept. and former member of the Camillus Elks. Surviving are his wife, the former Marjorie Zysset; daughter and son-in-law, Judith and John Meagher of Cato; son and daughter-in-law, William J. and Bette O'Hern III of Cleveland; sister, Mary Elisabeth Doughty of Syracuse; grandchildren, James Meagher, William J. O'Hern IV, Susan (Jimmy) Steverman, Kerry (Michael) Suppa, Michael (Dianne) O’Hern and Thomas O'Hern; and eight great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 28, 2009 at Greenlawn Cemetery in Warners. Arrangements are by the Buranich Funeral Home, Camillus.
