William J. Benware, 70, of Syracuse, passed away Friday, February 3, 2017 at home, surrounded by his loving family. Born and raised in Malone, he moved to Syracuse in 1973. A graduate of Franklin Academy High School, William was employed with Charney's for 43 years as manager at the Fairmount Fair and Camillus locations. He was an avid woodworker and carpenter and also enjoyed woodburning. William loved fishing and his English Bulldogs, but above all, loved spending time with his family and friends at camp on Lake Titus.
William was predeceased by his parents, Ralph and Bessie; and sister, Betty Lavoie.
Surviving are his wife of 50 years, the former Bonnie O'Reilly; daughter, Kimberly Benware; son, Wade; granddaughter, Taylor Pepper; brothers, Jerry (Jessica) and Jim (Sue Tupia); sisters-in-law, Patricia Benware and Gail O'Reilly; brother-in-law, Robert Lavoie; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Services and burial will be private.
A celebration of life will be held at Lake Titus in July.
