William H. Scriver

William H. Scriver, 86, of Camillus, died Tuesday, July 25, 2006 at Van Duyn Home & Hospital. Born in Rochester on Wednesday, August 13, 1919, he lived in Camillus for 48 years. He graduated from Benjamin Franklin High School in 1937 and was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II. Bill was employed for 18 years as superintendent with the Camillus Water District, retiring in 1986. He was a member of Fairmount Community Church. He held the Camillus Democratic chair from 1961-1970. Bill was a member of the Rotary Club of Camillus and was designated as a Paul Harris Fellow. He was first president of both the Camillus Chamber of Commerce and the Camillus Historical Society. Bill belonged to the Friends of Maxwell Library and was a charter member of the Camillus Elks. He was also secretary-treasurer with the Central New York Water Conference. Bill was one who enjoyed helping others and was proud of Camillus, He was a member of the Erie Canal Restoration Committee. One who loved to dance, Bill was a member of the Socialaires and the Top Hats Dance Club. He enjoyed his gardens, especially his peonies. Bill is predeceased by his daughters, Diane Scriver in 1996 and Linda Collins in 1998. Surviving are his wife of 65 years, the former Martha Cobb; grandsons, Matthew (Susan) Izzo of West Virginia and Paul Izzo of Nevada; five great-grandchildren, William, Jonathan, Christopher, Kaylee and Cody; sister, Grace W. Campbell of Manlius and several nieces. Services will be at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, July 29, 2006 in Fairmount Community Church with Rev. P.V. George officiating. Friends may call Friday, July 28, 2006 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery, Warners.
