William Edwards Tyler, 89, of Fairmount, passed away Wednesday, June 17, 2009 at St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center in Utica. Born in Syracuse on Saturday, November 29, 1919 he was the son of Thomas Tyler and Susan Edwards Tyle. He lived in Fairmount for 55 years. Bill was a 1937 graduate of Vocational High School. He was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II with the 7th Bomber Command, serving in Okinawa and Saipan. He was employed by General Electric Co. for 30 years and previously with Sanderson Steel Mill for three years. A member of West Genesee United Methodist Church, Bill held various offices in the church. An avid camper in the Adirondacks, he was also a former Boy Scout leader with Troops 49 and 26 and a 30-year volunteer with the Erie Canal Park. Bill was proud of his grandchildren and his new great-grandson, Connor James Young. Surviving are his wife of 59 years, the former Marjorie Machin; daughter, Sandra Cutler of Syracuse; son, Gary of Fairmount; grandchildren, Eric and Heather Young and Matthew and Erin Cutler; great-grandson, Connor James Young; and nephews, David, Douglas, Richard and Arthur Cowburn. Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 23, 2009 at Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus with Rev. Elizabeth Morey officiating. Relatives and friends may call Monday, June 22, 2009 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be private.
