William D. Kortright

William “Bill” D. Kortright, 67, a lifelong resident of Syracuse, passed away Friday, August 31, 2012 at home after a long illness. Born in Syracuse on Thursday, February 22, 1945, he was the son of Cornelius and Mary (Navin) Kortright. Bill was a graduate of St. Lucy’s. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and was employed by Carrier Corp. retiring after 35 years. He enjoyed golf and fishing. Bill was predeceased by his parents; and brothers, Francis and Patrick Kortright. Surviving are his loving wife, the former Karen Sheehan; daughters and sons-in-law, Dawn and John Ifkovits of New Paltz and Katie and Steve Smorol of Syracuse; brother and sister-in-law, John and Linda Kortright of Solvay; four incredible grandchildren, Jack and Aidan Ifkovits and Ashlyn and Shauna Smorol; mother-in-law, Janet Sheehan of Syracuse; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Relatives and friends may call Monday, September 3 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus. Services will be Tuesday, September 4 at 9:30 a.m. at the funeral home and 10:30 a.m. in St. Patrick's Church, 216 North Lowell, Ave., Syracuse, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Bill will be laid to rest in St. Francis Xavier Cemetery, Marcellus. Contributions may be made in memory of Bill to Hospice of Central New York, 990 Seventh North St., Liverpool, NY 13088 or to Sarah House, 100 Roberts Ave., Suite 10, Syracuse, NY 13207.
