William Andrews Beard, 92, of Camillus, passed away Monday, September 18, 2017 at his daughter's home in Cicero. He was born in Syracuse on September 24, 1924 to Beach L. and Violet Ballard. William attended high school at Onondaga Valley Academy and served in the US Navy during WWII as an aviation ordinanceman, Third Class, in the Pacific on the USS New Mexico (BB-40). Following his military service, he worked as an electrical mechanic and spent many years employed with Koerner Ford. William enjoyed, along with his beloved wife, their yearly trips to Ohio visiting family and also the annual reunions with the USS New Mexico Association. He loved gardening and bowling but above all, loved spending time with his family.
William was predeceased by his wife of 50 years, the former Leona Pelletier, in 2015.
Surviving are his son, William; daughters, Linda Edgar, Karen Phillips, Joyce Reusch, Denise Vecchiarelli and Diane Beard; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Relatives and friends may call Monday, September 25 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated Tuesday, September 26 at 10:30 a.m. in St. Joseph's Church. William will be laid to rest in Fayetteville Cemetery with military honors.
