Walter A. Tyszka, 82, of Camillus, passed away Monday, April 11, 2011 at St. Joseph’s Hospital. Born in Syracuse on Monday, November 19, 1928, he was the son of Carl Tyszka and Tekla Wrona Tyszka. He was a lifetime resident of the Syracuse area and was employed by Crucible Specialty Metals for 40 years until retiring in 1991. Walter was a Navy veteran of World War II. In 1946, he served our country as a participant of Operation Crossroads in the Marshall Islands. He was a communicant of the Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. An avid hunter and fisherman, he was a former member of the Fisherman's Club of Syracuse. He also enjoyed spending time with his family and taking an occasional trip to the casino. Walter was predeceased by five brothers and one sister. Surviving are his wife of 59 years, the former Sophie Kwiek; daughters and sons-in-law, Marie and James Scharoun of Liverpool and Suzanne and Thomas Mahan of Camillus; grandchildren, Shawn (Lisa) Tyszka, Caryn, Jennifer and Jeffrey Scharoun, and Brett and Shanna Mahan; great-grandchildren, Hunter and Ainsley Scharoun, Payton and Cadigan Tyszka; another great-granddaughter on the way; and several nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends may call Friday, April 15 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus. Services will be at 9 a.m. Saturday, April 16 at the funeral home and 10 a.m. in the Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Walter will be laid to rest in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Geddes.
