Vito Farinola, 90, of Syracuse, passed away Tuesday at home surrounded by his loving family. Born in Brooklyn, he moved to Bellmore, Long Island at age 11. A world traveler, he also resided in New Mexico, Maryland, Iran and Shoreham before residing in Syracuse. A graduate of Mepham High School, Vito was a Navy veteran. He was employed by Grumman Aerospace for 40 years, having worked on the lunar module. Vito was an avid golfer, enjoyed spending time at Jones Beach and the Long Island Sound. He took much pleasure in sharing a meal and stories with friends and family, especially his grandchildren who were his pride and joy.
Vito was predeceased by his wife of 52 years, the former Carolyn Haggerty; parents, Thomas and Mildred Farinola; and brothers, Louis “GiGi” Farinola and Carmine Farinola.
Surviving are his son, Thomas S. (Monique) Farinola of Newport Beach, CA; daughter, Mary Ellen (Pat) Guinto of Syracuse; sister, Theresa Reynolds; grandchildren, Patrick, Maggie and Andrew Guinto; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.
Relatives and friends may call Tuesday, August 24 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus, NY 13031.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated Wednesday, August 25 at 12:00 p.m. in St. Charles Borromeo Church, 501 South Orchard Rd., Syracuse. Vito will be laid to rest in Onondaga County Veterans Memorial Cemetery.
