Virginia “Ginny” L. (Henry) Koes, 85, of Syracuse, passed away unexpectedly Wednesday December 2, 2009 due to health complications. Ginny was born in Auburn, NY on Thursday, January 17, 1924, but lived and worked all of her adult life in Syracuse. She married Edward G. Koes in January of 1954 and they resided at their current home in Onondaga Hill since their marriage. Ginny graduated from Auburn East High School and Bryn Mawr College. She completed a degree in the medical field before moving to Syracuse in the late 1940s. She worked for a doctor in private practice before leaving to start a family in 1956. Ginny held various part-time jobs and volunteered while her family was growing up, including Brownie leader, Girl Scott leader, elementary school homeroom assistant and treasurer of the Westhill Band Parents Group. She was a lifetime member of the Westhill Parent Teachers Association and she was president of the Onondaga Hill Community Association for eight years. Ginny enjoyed her summers in the Thousand Islands and her winters in Florida. She enjoyed boating and various other outdoor activities with her family and friends. Ginny is survived by her husband of 55 years, Edward; daughter, Kelly (Mike) Sena of Chico, California; three sons and daughters-in-law, Thomas (Nancy) Koes of Marcellus, James (Mary Lou) Koes of Camillus and David (Debbie) Koes of Niskayuna, NY; six grandchildren, Jessica, Kristina, Paul, Kevin, Timmy and Bryan Koes. Ginny was predeceased by her parents, Paul and Florence Henry, and her only brother, Paul A. Henry Jr. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at noon Saturday, December 5, 2009 at The Church of St. Michael & St. Peter, Onondaga Hill. Relatives and friends may call preceding the funeral from 8:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus. Entombment will be in Resurrection Chapel Mausoleum, St. Mary's Cemetery, DeWitt.
