Virginia C. Sexton passed away peacefully at home on Friday January 19, 2018, after saying goodbye to her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and other family and friends. She was surrounded by her 12 children. Born in Syracuse in 1931 and just shy of her 87th birthday, she was the daughter of Mayor Thomas J. and Virginia Corcoran. A lifetime resident of Syracuse, Ginnie graduated from Central Tech and attended Le Moyne College. She served as vice president of her husband’s company, Remtico Office Machines. Ginnie was an enthusiastic Syracuse Orange fan and enjoyed traveling across the country with and to visit her children. She was a communicant of The Church of St. Michael & St. Peter and Our Lady of Lourdes.
Ginnie was predeceased by her husband of 59 years, Thomas J. Sexton Jr., in 2011; sisters, Mary Moffett and Eileen McGee; and brothers, Edward, Thomas and Robert Corcoran.
Surviving are her sons, Thomas III (Linda), Timothy, Paul (Raymond Stoffel), Patrick (Grace), Joseph and Martin (Georganne); daughters, Susan (Dale) Amyot, Mary Pat (Mary Ann Dwyer), Sheila (Gerry) Ostrom, Eileen Moore, Colleen (Cynthia Nelson) and Carolyn (Rosie Jones); sister, Sister Thomas Marie OSF; brothers, Paul, J. Arthur, William and Raymond Corcoran; 20 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; 61 nieces and nephews; and many cousins.
Relatives and friends may call Sunday, January 21 from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated Monday, January 22 at 10 a.m. in The Church of St. Michael & St. Peter. Ginnie will be laid to rest in St. Agnes Cemetery, Syracuse.
