Viola "Vi" Slade, 97, of Camillus, passed away Monday, October 6, 2014 at Upstate University Hospital at Community General. Born in Syracuse, she lived in Camillus since 1956. A graduate of Vocational High, Vi was employed for 11 years with Excelsior Insurance Co. and formerly with Bradley & Williams Electrical Contractors. She was a former communicant of Holy Family Church and volunteered with Meals-on-Wheels. Vi was predeceased by her husband, Herbert, in 2006; and brothers, Edward and Bartholomew Sullivan. Surviving are her daughter, Susan (Jim) Edmonds of Liverpool; sons, Dr. Herbert (Pam) Slade of Fort Worth, TX, William (Christy) Slade, Esq. of McLean, VA and Christopher (Jan) Slade of West Rutland, VT; brother, Robert W. Sullivan of Syracuse; grandchildren, Jessica, Dr. David (Dr. Jamie), Thomas, Kathryn, Camillus T. Slade and Jake Eaton ; and great-grandson, Louis. It was Vi’s wish to donate her body to science. There will be no calling hours. A memorial Mass will be celebrated Monday, November 3, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. in St. Joseph's Church. Burial will be private in St. Mary's Cemetery, DeWitt.
