Viola M. Thompson, 93, formerly of Norwich, NY, passed away on Sunday, November 23, 2014 at The Centers at St. Camillus. Born in Cuyler, NY, she lived in Norwich for 42 years and Marcellus for four years before moving to Onondaga Hill in 2006. Viola retired in 1983 after 25 years with NYS Veterans' Home in Oxford. A member of Immanuel United Methodist Church, she was also a former member of the Norwich VFW Auxiliary Post 2782. She enjoyed knitting and crocheting, cooking and baking for her family, along with other activities such as square dancing with the Broken Squares in Norwich, snowmobiling, camping, and playing Canasta. Viola was predeceased by her husband of 69 years, Alvin, in 2010. Surviving are her son, Donald (Judith) Thompson of Skaneateles; daughters, Judy (Thomas) Turton of Syracuse and Jeannine (David) Wysokowski of Orlando, FL; her grandchildren, Donald Thompson, Jr. of Skaneateles, Stephen (Melissa) Thompson of Skaneateles, Jennifer (Michael) Ginley of Greenfield Center, Thomas (Laurie) Turton III of Liverpool and Daniel (Rebecca) Turton of Syracuse; 17 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends may call Friday, November 28 from 1 to 2 p.m. at Immanuel United Methodist Church, 303 Kasson Rd., Camillus. Services will follow at 2 p.m. at the church. Viola will be laid to rest on Saturday, November 29 at 11 a.m. in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Norwich.
