Vincent F. Rao

April 29, 1930 — January 17, 2019

Vincent F. Rao, 88, of Fairmount, passed away Thursday, January 17, 2019 at The Centers at St. Camillus. Born and raised in Canastota, he moved to Syracuse as a young child and was a graduate of North High School. He was an Army veteran having served during the Korean War.

Vincent retired in 1993 after 15 years with New Process Gear and previously worked for Ward's Tip Top Bakery and P&C Bakery as a machine repairman. He was a union member with the UAW Local 1268 and Bakery & Confectionary Industry.

Vincent loved good old country music, especially Hank Williams and Johnny Cash. He enjoyed taking care of his yard and tinkering around the house but above all, loved spending time with his family, especially around the holidays.

Vincent was predeceased by his son, Michael, in 2012; sister, Rose; and brothers, Frank and John.

Surviving are his wife of 62 years, the former Mary White; daughters, Kathleen (Ted) Ryan and Susan Wolfe, both of Fairmount; sisters, Anna Marra of Syracuse, Mary Gilmour of Fairmount, Minnie Cavanaugh of Mattydale, Theresa (Roy) Chipperfield of No. Syracuse, and Jeannette Lozeau of Camillus; daughter-in-law, Joann Rao of Camillus; grandchildren, Holly, Jake (Keisha) and Justin; great-grandchildren, Lloyd, Michael, Gabriella, Noe and Gianna; and many nieces and nephews.

There will be no calling hours.

Funeral services will be private. Vincent will be laid to rest in Greenlawn Cemetery, Warners.
