Vernon V. Collings, 90, of Fairmount, passed away Wednesday at home. Born in Kansas City, KS, he lived in Massachusetts for 10 years, Vermont for eight years and the Syracuse area for approximately 40 years. He was an Army veteran of WWII. Vernon graduated from the University of Vermont in 1950 with a bachelor´s degree in mechanical engineering and was employed for 32 years as a standards engineer with Alco Power in Auburn, retiring in 1983. He was a communicant of St. Joseph´s Church and former member of the American Standards Society. Vernon was predeceased by his wife of 63 years, the former Laura Plant, in 2005; and son Gary in 2008. Surviving are his grandsons, David (Stacia) and Scott, both of Baldwinsville; great-grandchildren, Dylan and Kendra; daughter-in-law, Deborah Mossotti of LaFayette; sisters, Faynell Gregoire of Marlboro, MA and Lucille Williams of Northboro, MA; and brother, Edward (Jackie) Bourgeois of Dania, FL. Relatives and friends may call preceding the funeral from 9 to 10:30 a.m. at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the funeral home and at 11 a.m. in St. Joseph’s Church where a funeral Mass will be celebrated. Vernon will be laid to rest in the Onondaga County Veterans Memorial Cemetery.
