Verna O. Baker, 100, formerly of Camillus, died Friday, August 10, 2007 at Iroquois Nursing Home. Born in Sydenham, Ontario on Saturday, August 3, 1907, she was the daughter of Ira John Orser and Victoria Lees Orser. She lived in the Syracuse area most of her life and Camillus for more than 30 years. Verna was a graduate of Sydenham High School and the Crouse-Irving Hospital School of Nursing. She was a school nurse teacher for the LaFayette Central Schools, retiring in 1972 after eight years. Verna was formerly employed by Crouse-Irving Hospital for 30 years and Van Duyn for five years. She was a member of Columbian Presbyterian Church and a former member of First Baptist Church in Syracuse. She was also a member of the Crouse-Irving Nurses' Alumni Association, Onondaga County Retired Teachers' Association and the New York State Retired Teachers' Association. Verna was predeceased by her husband of 56 years, Raymond, in 1987 and her grandson, James Capone, in 1986. Surviving are her daughter and son-in-law, Mary Ann and Robert Capone of LaFayette; sons and daughter-in-law, Raymond O. Baker of Hickory, North Carolina. and Peter W. and Rita Baker of Memphis; nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild and several nieces and nephews. Services will be at noon Saturday, August 18 at Columbian Presbyterian Church, Rte. 20 and Rte. 11, LaFayette. Friends may call preceding the service from 11 a.m. to noon at the church. Arrangements are by Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus. Burial will be in LaFayette Rural Cemetery. Contributions may be made to the James V.
