Verna L. Cayen, 77, of Fairmount, passed away Monday, December 14, 2015 at University Hospital after a long illness. Born in Tupper Lake, she lived in Ohio and Syracuse before moving to Fairmount in 1964. She was a 1955 graduate of Central Tech High School. Verna worked for OnBank in Fairmount before retiring from John M. Lischak Law Firm. She was a member of Fay Road Baptist Church. She enjoyed ice skating, indoor roller skating, bowling, playing cards and crossword puzzles. Verna was predeceased by her husband, Paul; parents, Leonard and Ethel Payrot; brothers, Leland and Darryl Payrot; and sister, Frances Pagan. Surviving are her sons, Mark Cayen of Fairmount and Paul (Amy) Cayen of East Syracuse; step-granddaughter, Emily Kipping; half sister, Darlene (Charles) Butler; and half brother, Lawrence (Deborah) Jones, both of Liverpool; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins; and special friends, Diane Berger, Jeff Carter, Irene Theobald, Jo Balstra, Bill Young and Barbara Rottolo. Relatives and friends may call Thursday, December 17 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus. Services will follow at 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
