Velma J. Couse DeBottis, 84, of Camillus, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 22, 2009 at home, surrounded by her family. Born in Syracuse on Thursday, June 26, 1924, she was the daughter of Floyd Couse and Sarah Fosbrook. A long-time resident of the Syracuse-Camillus area, she was a graduate of Vocational High School. Velma was a business partner with her late husband, Robert. A communicant of St. Joseph's Church, she was also a member of the Altar & Rosary Society. She was a former member of Beta Sigma Phi. Velma was predeceased by her husband, Robert DeBottis (1978), sisters, Vivian Leakey, Hazel Couse and Evelyn Stoneburg. Surviving are her daughters and sons-in-law, Kathy and Jake Newhouse of New Hampshire and Tucson, Arizona, Chris and Michael Minet of Marcellus; son, Robert DeBottis of Camillus; sisters, Virginia Egnoto of Camillus and Shirley Bastedo of Liverpool; brother and sister-in-law, Clifton and Anne Couse of Brownville; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 25, 2009 in St. Joseph’s Church where a funeral Mass will be celebrated. Velma will be laid to rest in Assumption Cemetery. Arrangements are by the Buranich Funeral Home, Camillus. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Hospice of Central New York, 990 Seventh North St., Liverpool, NY 13088.
