Valerie J. (Baniewicz) Dixon, 85, of Camillus, passed away Tuesday, June 26, 2012 at Francis House. Born in Syracuse on Thursday, September 2, 1926, she was the daughter of Michaelina Grazul Baniewicz and Cajetan “Charles” Baniewicz. Valerie retired in 1989 after 24 years with US Airways. She was devoted to her family and enjoyed traveling. Valerie was predeceased by her sisters, Madeline Wojslaw and Patricia Erhard; and brother, Richard Baniewicz. Surviving are her husband of almost 65 years, Robert Charles Dixon; daughters and sons-in-law, Sheila and Raymond Hahn of Marcellus and Janice and John Czebiniak of Cicero; son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Cindy of Marcellus; sister, Frances Zogg of San Diego, California; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank all the care givers who helped Valerie remain home for the last eight years of her illness and Upstate Hospital at Community General 3-W and Francis House for their care and compassion. Relatives and friends may call Sunday, July 1 from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus. Services will be Monday, July 2 at 9:15 a.m. at the funeral home and 10 a.m. in St. Joseph's Church, where a funeral Mass will be celebrated. Valerie will be laid to rest in Onondaga County Veterans Memorial Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Francis House, 108 Michaels Ave., Syracuse, NY 13208.
