Todd R. Alger, 37, of Wesley Chapel, Florida, died unexpectedly Friday,September 5, 2008 in Tampa, Florida. Born in Biloxi, Mississippi on Sunday, June 6, 1971, he grew up in Westvale and graduated from Westhill High School in 1990. Upon graduation from Emery Aviation College, Todd was a certified flight instructor and a commercial pilot. During that time, he flew Mercy Flights so others could receive necessary medical care. Later, he flew for US Airways. Following the 9/11 tragedy, Todd was employed in private business in Florida. His best times were with his family and when he was flying. Surviving are his wife, the former Chyrie Speegle of Wesley Chapel; parents, Damon Skip and Kathleen Alger of Westvale; stepsons, Tim and Terry Speegle; step-grandchildren, Trace, Bailee and Makynzee Speegle, all of Florida; aunts, Mary Jane Sexton of Syracuse and Donna (Philip) Hamel of Phoenix; uncles, Paul (Lori) Alger and David Alger, both of Constantia, and Howard W. (Rosalie) Calkins of Aston, Pennsylvania; cousins, John (Lois) Sexton, Michael Sexton and Kevin (Maureen) Sexton, all of Syracuse, Jane (Adam) Bernstein of Port Washington, Patricia (Mark) Holtzman of Clifton Park, Teresa, Pauline and Rosalie Calkins, all of Aston, Pennsylvania, Leslie (Peter) Banaszek of Florida, William Brenchley of New York, James (Patty) Brenchley of Ithaca; and several second cousins. He was predeceased by his stepsister, Lisa Alger. Private services will be at Holy Family Church where a funeral Mass will be celebrated. Friends may call Thursday, September 11, 2008 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus. Private burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, DeWitt.
