Thomas J. Piraino, 54, of Playa Del Rey, California, died Tuesday August 30, 2005 in Los Angeles, California. Born in Syracuse, New York on Saturday, June 9, 1951, he was the son of Carmen and Merle Piraino. Tom lived in Playa Del Rey for 10 years. He was road manager for Benny Mardones for many years. According to Benny, he was the best road manager in rock & roll. A car racing enthusiast, Tom fulfilled a dream on Memorial Day of working with an Indy 500 pit crew. He was predeceased by his father, Carmen Piraino, who died in 1973 Surviving are his son, Zachary Piraino of Jordan; his mother, the former Merle Baker; sisters, Karen Piraino and Leslie Kotula, both of Camillus and Melissa Piraino of Syracuse; brother, Frank Piraino of Liverpool; nieces, Alexandra Kotula and Stephanie Kotula and nephew, Jacob Piraino. A memorial service will be at a time to be announced Wednesday, September 7, 2005 in St. Ann's Church, 4461 Onondaga Rd., where a funeral Mass will be celebrated by Rev. Joseph H. Phillips. Friends may call Tuesday, September 6, 2005 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus. Burial will be in Assumption Cemetery. A sunset memorial in Playa Del Rey is planned for a later date.
