Rev. Thomas F. Guyder, 95, passed away Saturday, April 25, 2009 at Loretto. Born in Jack’s Reef on Wednesday, April 1, 1914, he was the son of Thomas Guyder and Mary Margaret Murphy Guyder. A 1932 graduate of Jordan High School, Father Guyder was ordained a priest on May 18, 1940 at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception by Bishop Emmett Walsh of Charlestown, South Carolina. He attended St. Michael´s College at the University of Toronto prior to entering St. Bernard´s Seminary and Mount St. Mary´s Seminary in Emmitsburg, Maryland. His first assignment was parochial vicar of St. Mary´s of the Lake in Skaneateles in 1940 before continuing on to serve as parochial vicar at Our Lady of Pompei in Syracuse, St. Agnes in Utica and St. Patrick´s and St. John the Evangelist, both in Syracuse. Following his appointment as pastor of St. Theresa´s in New Berlin, Father Guyder began serving as pastor of St. Joseph’s Church in Camillus in 1962 until retiring in May 1989. While serving as pastor, he was responsible for the building of the church and the parish center, named in his honor as the Guyder Parish Center. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus #189 Utica Council and life-time member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians. Father Guyder was predeceased by his parents, Mary and Thomas Guyder; and brothers, James, Raymond and Donald Guyder. Surviving are his nieces, Anne Kathleen Kenan of Phoenix, Arizona, Helen Patricia Gingell of Syracuse, Mary Guyder of Westvale, Norma Guyder of Elbridge and Rosemary Guyder of Westvale; nephew, William Guyder of Westvale; and several great-nieces and great-nephews. Relatives and friends may call Thursday, April 30, 2009 from 5 to 7 p.m. at St. Joseph’s Church, 5600 W. Genesee St., Camillus. A Prayer Vigil Service will be at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 30, 2009 at St. Joseph’s Church with Msgr. J. Robert Yeazel as main celebrant. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 1, 2009 at St. Joseph’s Church with The Most Rev. James M. Moynihan and The Most Rev. Thomas J. Costello as main celebrants. Father will be laid to rest in St. Mary's Cemetery, DeWitt. Arrangements are by the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St. Camillus.
