Thomas F. Ennis Sr., 90, of Syracuse, passed away Monday, March 6, 2017 in St. Augustine, FL. A lifetime resident of the Syracuse area, he lived in Florida since 2012. A graduate of Christian Brothers Academy, Thomas attended LeMoyne College and Onondaga Community College. He was a Navy veteran of WWII and retired as fire district chief from the Syracuse Fire Department after 37 years of service. A communicant of Holy Family Church, Thomas was also a member of the Syracuse Fire Department Retirees Association, the New York State Police and Fire Retirees Association and American Legion Tipp Hill Post.
Thomas was predeceased by his loving wife of 44 years, Shirley Coomey-Ennis, in 1994.
Surviving are his sons, Daniel (Judy) of St. Augustine, FL, Thomas Jr. (Patti) of Hancock, NH and Matthew (Jacque) of St. Augustine, FL; daughter, Therese (Roger) Dry of St. Augustine, FL; sister, Rita Church of Marcellus; 9 grandchildren; and 35 nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends may call Friday, March 10 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday, March 11 at 9 a.m. in Holy Family Church. Thomas will be laid to rest in St. Mary's Cemetery, DeWitt.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations in Thomas Ennis Sr.'s memory be made to the Bailey Center in St. Augustine, FL c/o Community Hospice of Northeast Florida, 4266 Sunbeam Rd., Jacksonville, FL 32257.
