Thomas C. Buckel Sr., 88, of Camillus, passed away Wednesday at Upstate Hospital. Born in Batavia, he moved to Syracuse and graduated from Eastwood High School. He served in the U.S. Army from 1953 to 1955. Thomas was employed as the Director of Compensation at MONY Mutual of New York Insurance Co. for 28 years. He enjoyed his family, model trains and beloved pets.
Thomas was predeceased by his wife of 45 years, the former Marilyn B. Discenza; parents, Clarence C. and J. Arlene Buckel; sister, Jane Engelbrecht; and brother, Rev. Ronald Buckel.
Surviving are his sons, Thomas Jr. (Mary Vossler) of Syracuse, Paul (Diana) of Asheville, NC and David (Terri) of St. Petersburg, FL; daughter, Cynthia (Thomas) Goffredo of Camillus; 13 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and his loving companion of 18 years, Grace Colella, of Solvay.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday, April 9 at 9 a.m. at Holy Family Church, 127 Chapel Dr., Syracuse.
Thomas will be laid to rest at St. Mary’s Cemetery in DeWitt.
