Thomas A. Butler, 83, of Fairmount, passed away Friday, March 3, 2017 at Elderwood at Liverpool. A lifetime resident of the Syracuse area, he was a graduate of Warners High School and an Army veteran of the Korean War. Thomas retired in 1995 after 30 years with Church & Dwight in Solvay and previously worked at Onondaga Beverage for many years. He was a communicant of Holy Family Church and member of the Moose Lodge and former vice president of the United Steelworkers. An avid bowler and horseshoe player, Thomas also enjoyed dancing, spending time at the casino and following the stock market.
Thomas was predeceased by his wife, the former Grace Bunting, in 1986; and sister, Florence Virginio.
Surviving are his daughters, Sandra Eaton of Clover, SC, Patricia (Edwin) Butler-Rhoades of Camillus and Deborah (Christopher) Barron of Syracuse; sister, Lottie (John) Mero of Phoenix, NY; brother, James Butler of San Francisco, CA; grandchildren, James (Samantha) Eaton of Clover, SC, Jennifer (Michael) Hoover of Syracuse, David (Geoffrey) Eaton of Clover, SC, Andrew Havranko of Camillus, Richard Eaton of North Syracuse and Amy Eaton of Canastota; great-granddaughter, Carlyn Hoover; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Relatives and friends may call Tuesday, March 7 from 11 a.m. to noon at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus.
A funeral Mass will follow at 12:30 p.m. in Holy Family Church. Spring burial will be in Jacksonville Cemetery, Lysander.
