Theresa “Terry” Dugan, 98, of Syracuse, passed away Tuesday at Iroquois Nursing Home. Born in Baillieston, Scotland to Irish parents, she came to the U.S. when she was only two. Theresa was always very proud of her new country; believing it was the best country in the world to live in. She had the heart of a true American, but those who knew her would say her spirit was ever so Irish. It was a wonderful blend of two worlds, and Theresa cherished them both.
It was in New York where Theresa met and married her dear husband of 37 years, Robert “Bob” of Tipperary Hill. They led a charmed life together, from their time in Cape Vincent where they often took out their boat and fished on the St. Lawrence River, to winters in Florida where they played and partied while embracing their large group of friends.
Family and friends were extremely important to Theresa and she held them dear. When she met you, she would shake your hand with her left hand because it was the closest to the heart. She would openly tell those around her how much she loved and appreciated them. She was renowned for sharing a repertoire of jokes and music.
Theresa was predeceased by her husband, Bob; parents; and ten siblings.
Surviving are her several nieces and nephews; and precious dog, Gidget.
Theresa’s family will miss her tremendously.
There will be no calling hours.
A funeral Mass will be held Friday, October 28 at 11 a.m. in Holy Family Church, 127 Chapel Dr., Syracuse.
Theresa will be laid to rest in Onondaga County Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Syracuse.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
