Terry W. Owens, 74, of Camillus, passed away Saturday, October 27, 2018 surrounded by his loving family. A graduate of Chittenango High School and Empire College, Terry played and excelled in many high school sports. In 2009, he was inducted into the Chittenango Hall of Fame.
Terry's career began at Syracuse China and then included Camillus Cutlery, Oberdofer Foundry, Eagle Comtronics, Pass & Seymour, Inc., Will & Baumer, and Muench-Kreuzer Candle Co. He also spent several years as a substitute teacher at Marcellus High School.
Surviving are his wife, Fay; son, Todd (Donna) Owens; daughter, Kelly (Michael) Porcaro; special grandchildren, Carissa and Eli Owens, and Jade, Lea and Ian Porcaro; brother, Tom Owens; sister-in-law, Ellie Dow; and nephew, Kevin Dow.
Terry had a long career as a coach starting in 1972, when Todd brought home the Optimist T-Ball registration. When no volunteers came forward, Fay volunteered Terry. He coached Optimist baseball and basketball for many years, before moving on to school sports including Marcellus boys varsity lacrosse, girls varsity basketball and JV soccer, West Genesee boys middle school 7/8 lacrosse, Onondaga Central and Bishop Ludden boys varsity lacrosse, and Baldwinsville girls JV basketball.
Terry enjoyed all sports, all the time but above all, loved his family. He had a wicked sense of humor and my best guess is at this point he would say, "Way to go Red Sox! Bring it on Patriots!"
Relatives and friends may call Friday, November 2 from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday, November 3 at 11 a.m. in Holy Family Church. Burial will be Monday, November 5 in Maplewood Cemetery, Camillus.
