Tamara E. Dembowski, of Camillus, passed away peacefully on Wednesday at Crouse Hospital. Born in Russia, she was a survivor of World War II. In 1949, Tamara immigrated to the United States, arriving at Ellis Island aboard the General Stewart, before settling in Syracuse. A graduate of Central High School, she had a passion for gardening, cooking, shopping, and playing the lottery. Above all, Tamara’s family was the center of her life, and she cherished every moment spent with them. Known for her warmth and ability to strike up a conversation with anyone, she was deeply loved by her family and friends.
Tamara was predeceased by her parents, John and Ewdokia Bereginsky; and sister, Valentina Schipitcza.
Surviving are her husband of 65 years, David; daughter, Lisa (Dan) LaVine of Camillus; sons, Michael (Teresa) of Fairfax, VA, and David (Dawn) of Corte Madera, CA; grandchildren, Aimee and Dan LaVine, and Leela and Amelia Dembowski; sister, Lydia VanVogt of Desert Hot Springs, CA.; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
To celebrate Tamara’s life, relatives and friends are invited to gather on Tuesday, January 28, 2025, from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus. A funeral service will follow in the funeral home.
Tamara will be laid to rest in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Lakeland.
