Sviatoslav "Sviat" Makohon, 44, of Venice, Florida, passed away Friday, May 30, 2014. He left this world peacefully after a brief illness surrounded by his loving family. Sviat is survived by his parents, Ted and Stefania Dziergas of Syracuse; his vooyko/brother, Dr. Nykolai (Melissa) Pidhorodeckyj and their children, Andrew and Sonya of Akron, Ohio; cousins, Peter Dziergas, Regina Dziergas and James Dziergas of Fayetteville; and soul-mate, Peggy Sienecki of Venice, FL. Sviat also has several cousins in Ukraine. A lifetime resident of the Syracuse area, Sviat was a graduate of Lesia Ukraina Ukrainian School of Studies, Christian Brothers Academy and University of Arizona in Tucson, where he received his bachelor's degree in philosophy. His personal philosophy was emulate and improve. He was an itinerant philosopher who liked to spread the gospel of used books. He was a very special individual who enjoyed life, loved to travel, ride his motorcycle, loved to cook fine foods for family and friends and had a passion for knowledge and books. His travels took him to many European countries and China. He rode "Tail of the Dragon" at Deals Gap in the Smoky Mountains with 318 curves in 11 miles, America's number one motorcycle road. As an avid reader, what began as a passion became a business which led Sviat and Peggy to open Sanddollar Bookstore in Venice, Florida. Both new and used books, antiquarian, Floridiana, children’s, signed first editions and collectibles, and rare and out-of-print book searches were also available. Weekly poetry sessions were held at the bookstore, where people would gather and enjoy sharing their written works. We sincerely want to thank the staff of Dr. Stephen Orman of the Florida Cancer Center with special thanks to Jan, Kelly and Amy for their love and support during this most difficult time. Please help us celebrate Sviat's life by sharing your favorite memories at Tdziergas@aol.com or elecbystef@aol.com. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to a local animal shelter. Sviat had a love of animals, especially his felines, "Conrad" and "Dante", and his Scottish Terrier, "Sophie." Relative and friends may call Sunday, July 13 from noon to 3 p.m. at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus. Services will follow at 3 p.m. at the funeral home. A memorial luncheon will follow at 4 p.m. at The Green Gate in Camillus. "The longest journey is the journey inwards." VICHNAYA PAMYAT
