Steven J. Leach, 71, of Solvay, passed away Saturday at St. Joseph’s Health Hospital, surrounded by his loving wife and daughter. Born and raised in Southampton, England, he moved to the United States and settled in Solvay in 1978. Steve was a self-employed painter for over 25 years and later worked at James Square Nursing Home in the maintenance dept. for 10 years. He was a communicant of St. Marianne Cope at St. Cecelia Church. Steve was a former avid fisherman and golfer which he enjoyed doing with his son, Michael. He was a member of the Tyrol Club of Solvay, their Friday Night Card League, was a former member of the Camillus Elks Lodge #2367, and enjoyed going to the casino with his buddies. Above all, he loved spending time with his family and friends, especially his grandchildren.
Steve was predeceased by his son, Michael in January; parents, Herbert and Joan; brother, Graham; and brother-in-law, Albert “Al” Merola.
Surviving are his wife of 44 years, the former Sandra Miori; daughter, Heather (Devin) Carrigan of Solvay; grandchildren, Teagan, Riley, Michael and Bree; daughter-in-law, Charina of Marcellus; sister, Carol (Malcolm) Charles and brother, Raymond (Mary), both of Southampton, England; and also leaves behind so many other Leach/Miori family members and friends.
There will be no calling hours.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, September 10 at 10 a.m. at St. Marianne Cope Parish at St. Cecilia Church, 1001 Woods Rd., Solvay. Steve will be laid to rest in St. Francis Xavier Cemetery, Marcellus.
Per Steve’s wishes, everyone is invited to the Tyrol Club of Solvay for a reception following the memorial service to celebrate Steve’s life.
