Sterling M. Burdick, 92, of Onondaga Hill, passed away Monday, April 3, 2017 at Elderwood at Liverpool. Born and raised in Morrisville, he moved to the Syracuse area in 1952. A graduate of Morrisville High School, Sterling earned his bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from Syracuse University. He was an Army veteran of WWII, serving with the 95th Infantry Division. Wounded in France in 1944, Sterling was awarded the Bronze Star and Purple Heart. He was then transferred to the Pacific for the remainder of the war. Sterling was in charge of the Onondaga County Health Department Bureau of Air Resources and Solid Waste for 24 years and previously worked as an engineer at Allied Chemical Solvay Process Division for 17 years. He enjoyed traveling the world with his wife, Pat and camping with his kids and grandkids, but above all, loved spending time with his family and cats.
Sterling was predeceased by his wife , Patricia, in 2015; sister, Marion Lillie; and brother, Gordon.
Surviving are his daughter, Wendy (Dan) Stummer of Aurora, OH; sons, Paul (Joan) of Baldwinsville and Mark (Linda) of Manlius; grandchildren, Sarah (Mike) Conord, Ken (Melanie) Burdick, Laurel (Patrick) Leone, Jared Burdick and Kelsey and Josie Stummer; great-grandchildren, Jack and Hannah Leone, Dylan Conord and Theo Burdick; and several nieces and nephews.
There will be no calling hours. Services and burial will be private.
