Sophie Hanyak, 94, formerly of Camillus, went home to Our Lord and her beloved husband John on Monday, August 3, 2009 in Bethel, Connecticut. Sophie was born and raised in Taylor, Pennsylvania. A communicant of St. Joseph’s Church, she was a member of the Altar & Rosary Society and the Funeral Luncheon Guild. Sophie enjoyed cooking, baking and spending time with her extended family. She was predeceased by her husband of 33 years in 1971. Surviving are her son and daughter-in-law, John and Bonnie Hanyak of Marcellus; her daughters and sons-in-law, Joan and Larry Craybas of Bethel, Connecticut, Carol Hooper of Raleigh, North Carolina and Dorothy and Kenneth DeFabio of Charlotte, North Carolina, 11 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, August 10, 2009 at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus and at 10:30 a.m. in St. Joseph’s Church where a funeral mass will be celebrated. Relatives and friends may call preceding the funeral from 8 to 10 a.m. at the funeral home. Sophie will be laid to rest in St. Mary’s Cemetery, DeWitt. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to St. Joseph’s Food Pantry, 5600 W. Genesee St., Camillus, NY 13031.
