Shirley Roy, 88, of Camillus, passed away peacefully Friday, at Syracuse Home, surrounded by her family. Born in Ogdensburg, Shirley graduated from Ogdensburg Free Academy. As a teenager, she was the elevator girl at Empsall’s Department Store. She moved to Syracuse in 1954, working at Acme Markets and Dey Brothers before starting a 40-year career with the OBGYN practice of Doctors Fournier, Redfield, McLean, Isaac, Massad, Ball, Neulander, and Luthringer, before retiring in 2009. She enjoyed spending time with family more than anything. She especially loved spending time in the Village of Skaneateles, shopping and having dinner at The Sherwood Inn and The Bluewater Grill. She was an avid SU sports and NY Yankees fan.
Shirley was predeceased by her parents, Wendell and Georgiana Woodward; sister, Patricia Skelly; and brothers, Wendell Jr. and Allen.
Shirley is survived by her daughters, Becki (Kip) White and Debby (Barry) Carr; and son, Brad Roy. She was Gramma Shirley to Jeffrey, Casey (Melissa), Stephen and Kelly, Esq.
In honor of Shirley’s life, relatives and friends are invited to gather on Monday, February 19 from 4 to 6 p.m. in Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus.
Services will be private. Shirley will be laid to rest in Greenlawn Cemetery, Warners.
