Shirley (Graf) Durling, 95, of Camillus, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her daughters. Having lived most of her life in the Syracuse area, she was a graduate of North High School. Shirley received her bachelor's degree from Eastman School of Music at the University of Rochester, and a master's degree in music education from Syracuse University. She was a music teacher in the Lyons, Liverpool, and West Genesee School Districts for many years. Shirley was also a violinist with the Syracuse Symphony Orchestra for over 35 years. She enjoyed spending time with her family, music, traveling, camping, playing bridge, and going to the casino.
Shirley was predeceased by her husband of 56 years, Robert E.; and parents, Frederick and Marcella Graf; sister and brother-in-law, Marie and Jack Richards; and nephew, Gary Richards.
Surviving are her daughters, Lynn (Manny) Freshman of Nashville, TN, Jill (Marty) DiBattista of Syracuse, and Terri (Tony) Battaglia of Memphis, NY; grandchildren, Brandon (Tatiana) LeBlanc, Carly (Jeff) McCabe, Nina (Ryan) Cuff, Melissa (Peter) Wolff, Steve (Cylinda) Battaglia, and Chris (Meghan) Battaglia; 11 great-grandchildren; and nieces, Beth Richards and Gail Morrow.
There will be no calling hours.
A private graveside service will be held in Onondaga County Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Syracuse, where Shirley will be laid to rest.
Shirley's family would like to thank the aides and staff at Brookdale for the wonderful care provided to their mom.
