Shirley A. McCabe, 82, of Syracuse, passed away Wednesday, December 21, 2011 with her grandchildren at her side. Born and raised in Carthage, she moved to Syracuse in the 1950s and resided in Westvale for 45 years. Shirley wintered in North Palm Beach, Florida for the past 15 years. She was a member of the Moose Lodge in Syracuse and volunteer at the Ronald McDonald House. She was an avid Yankees fan. Also an avid baker, Shirley was known as the "Cookie Lady" at Upstate Medical University Children's Unit. She enjoyed decorating cakes, including wedding cakes, cupcakes and cookies, always having to burn a batch for her husband, "Buster." She enjoyed spending time with her family and grandchildren. Shirley was predeceased by her husband, James E. McCabe Jr.; sister, Donna McCarthy; son, William R. Worden; daughter-in-law, Bonnie Haynes Worden; and grandson, Eddie Tobin III. Surviving are her sons, Donald (Sandra) H. Worden of Bridgeport and Sam Worden of Deruyter; daughters, Stephanie (Edward) Tobin and Jamie (James) Felicia, both of Syracuse; sisters, Nancy Strickland and Ida (Harold) Rhone, both of North Carolina, and Marylou (Jefferson Duryea) Jesmer of Hastings; brother, Michael (Barbara) Jesmer of Liverpool; 13 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Relatives and friends may call Monday, December 26 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus. Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, December 27 at the funeral home with Rev. Gary Ferner officiating. Shirley will be laid to rest in White Chapel Memory Gardens, DeWitt.
