Sharon A. O’Connell, 77, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and sister, passed away peacefully on Saturday at Van Duyn Center for Rehabilitation and Nursing. A lifetime resident of the Syracuse area, she was a graduate of Central Tech High School. Sharon dedicated over 10 years of her career as a skilled seamstress at Carfagno's Draperies in Camillus. She had a remarkable talent for sewing and crafting, which she joyfully shared with those she loved. Sharon’s creativity extended to her passion for baking and cooking, and she was an avid reader.
Above all, Sharon cherished her family, and the time spent with them, which brought her the greatest joy.
Sharon was predeceased by her parents, Henry and Elizabeth Johnson; brother, Martin Johnson; grandson, Matthew Rimualdo; brother-in-law, Frank Johnson; and nephew, Michael Johnson.
Surviving are her husband, John; daughter, Kristine (David) Mitson of Camillus; son, Kevin Hershey of Concord, NC; stepsons, Tim of Syracuse, John (Jamie) of Charleston, SC, Pat and Andy, both of Atlanta, GA; grandchildren, Joshua, Emily, Will, Olivia, and Luke; sisters, Kathleen (Thomas) Kordek of Clay, Barbara Johnson of Camillus, Martha (John) Reidy of Syracuse, and Janet (Mike) Strong of Camillus; and many nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends may call Wednesday, December 11, 2024, from 1 to 3 p.m., at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus. A funeral service will follow at the funeral home.
Burial will be private
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests contributions be made to St. Joseph's Church Food Pantry, 5600 W. Genesee St., Camillus, NY 13031.
