Sarah “Sally”, “G-ma” G. Opela, 79, of Camillus, passed away Wednesday, May 11, 2011 at Community General Hospital. Born in Saratoga on Sunday, January 31, 1932, she was the daughter of Paul Boncaro and Grace D’Agostino Boncaro. She was raised in Auburn and Geneva and lived in Camillus since 1955. Sally was a long-time communicant of St. Joseph's Church. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of Camillus Elks and volunteered her time at Community General Hospital. Sally was predeceased by her husband of 58 years, John Joseph Opela March 28, 2009. Surviving are her daughters and sons-in-law, Diane and Dan Niver of Penn Yan, Patty and Bob Tiffany of Memphis and Janice “Tuke” Opela of Camillus; son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Mary of Cato; granddaughters, Cassie and Christine Tiffany, Meagan and Michelle Opela; and brother and sister-in-law, George and Belinda Boncaro of Brooksville, Florida. G-ma was very generous with her time and always thinking of others, putting her needs aside. She enjoyed the company of her friends, children, grandchildren, and her cat and buddy, Molly. She was a great mother, excellent cook, and a devoted wife and caregiver to her husband, John. If the true measure of wealth of a person is represented by the number of friends they have, G-ma has left this earth as a very wealthy person. She was always there for us. Funeral services will be private. Entombment will be in Resurrection Chapel Mausoleum, St. Mary’s Cemetery, DeWitt. Arrangements are by the Buranich Funeral Home, Camillus. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Sally’s memory to the St. Jude Tribute Program, P.O. Box 1000, Dept. 142, Memphis, TN 38148-0142.
