Sara Frances (McConnell) Daley, 91, formerly of Camillus, passed away Tuesday, May 31, 2011 in Timonium, Maryland, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Apulia Station on Saturday, October 11, 1919, she was the daughter of Christopher and Catherine (Doyle) McConnell. Sally lived in Camillus for 48 years until moving to Timonium in 2006. She graduated from Tully Central High School at the age of 16 and went on to graduate from St. Joseph's Hospital School of Nursing in l940. At the beginning of World War II, Sally was commissioned as a lieutenant (j.g.) in the Navy as a navy nurse. While serving in the Navy, she met a shore patrolman, Edmund Daley, whom she married in 1946. Mr. Daley went on to become a Secret Service agent and became Special Agent in charge of the northern district of New York which brought the Daley family back to Central New York in 1958. Upon the death of her husband in 1961, Sally enrolled at Syracuse University where she received a bachelor of science degree in nursing in 1966. Following her graduation from Syracuse University, she became employed as a school nurse teacher in the West Genesee School District at both Fairmount Elementary School and Stonehedge Elementary School, retiring as director of health for the district. Devoted to her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Sally’s greatest joy was spending time with her family. A communicant of St. Joseph's Church in Camillus for more than 50 years, her faith was deeply important to her. During her retirement, she treasured her time volunteering at Francis House and for Meals on Wheels. Sally was predeceased by her husband, Edmund P. Daley; parents, Christopher and Catherine McConnell; brother, Christopher, and sister, Ann. Surviving are her children, Maureen (Richard) Nee of Cockeysville, Maryland, Patricia (Frederick) Buckley of Swampscott, Massachusetts, Edmund (Rita O’Sullivan) Daley of Bedford, New Hampshire, Thomas (Maureen Conley) Daley of Delmar, New York and Terrence (Charlotte Conley) Daley of Bedford, New Hampshire. Her life will also be perpetuated by her 18 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Relatives and friends may call Sunday, June 5 from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus. Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, June 6 at the funeral home and at 10:30 a.m. in St. Joseph's Church where a funeral Mass will be celebrated. Sally will be laid to rest in St. Mary's Cemetery, DeWitt. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Sally’s name to Francis House, 108 Michaels Ave., Syracuse, NY 13208.
