Sally Dunlay Smits, 84, of Camillus, passed away peacefully Wednesday, July 21, 2010 at Francis House. Born in Watertown on Wednesday, May 19, 1926 she was the daughter of Dr. Emmett Blaine Dunlay and Evelyn Cameron Dunlay. She lived in Jacksonville, Florida before moving to Camillus in 1963. Sally was a communicant of St. Joseph’s Church. She was devoted to her family and enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren. She was an avid reader. Sally was predeceased by her daughter, Michaela Cardinal; and sister, Patricia Edinger. Surviving are her husband of 60 years, George; daughters and sosn-in-law, Stephanie Scheirer of Syracuse, Katrinia Smits of Tucson, Arizona, Sarah Lisa and Dan King of Liverpool and Jennifer and Joe Gettino of Camillus; sons, Patrick of Dallas, Texas and Michael of Syracuse; grandchildren, Matthew and Joshua Scheirer, Colin Anderson-Smits, and Sophie, Vinny and Anthony Gettino; great-grandchildren, Madison Scheirer, and Greg and Josh Holmes; sister, Kay McAskill of Buffalo; son-in-law, Vince Cardinal of Syracuse; and several nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends may call Friday, July 23 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, July 24 in St. Joseph’s Church. Sally will be laid to rest in Maplewood Cemetery, Camillus.
