Ruth "Ann" Ohl, 90, of Camillus, died on Saturday, October 21, 2023, following a brief illness. Born in Johnstown, PA, on Christmas Day of 1932, she attended Johnstown High School and Lock Haven State College’s nursing program. Ann completed her training to be a registered nurse at UPMC Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh and moved to the Syracuse area in 1954. She deeply enjoyed her work as a nurse and spent 58 years working primarily in family care medicine. Ann began her career at the Hospital of Good Shepherd in Syracuse and went on to work with family physicians, Doctors Bluto and Palmer, in Camillus. She later joined the Family Care Medical Group in Camillus, where she worked alongside Dr. Henry Schoeneck for over 20 years. As a longstanding member of the Immanuel United Methodist Church, Ann served on various committees and sang in the church’s choir. She also belonged to the Camillus Garden Club. Her other hobbies included reading, baking, knitting, and listening to classical music.

Ann was predeceased by her parents, Wilmer Dean and Gladys Lambert Smouse; and sister, Jane Smouse Gramling.

Surviving are her husband of 68 years, Clyde of Camillus; daughter, Debra (Ira Coleman) Hurley of Skaneateles; son, David (Barbara) Ohl of Oklahoma City, OK; grandchildren, Connor Hurley of New York City, Rachel (John Thomas) Hurley Kearney of Boston, MA, and Dylan (Sara) Ohl of Lakeland, FL; and two great-granddaughters, Sofia and Addison Ohl.

Ann's greatest joy was her family. She loved spending time with them, particularly during the holidays, and delighted in baking them delicious pies and her famous chocolate chip cookies. She will be deeply missed.

Relatives and friends may call Saturday, October 28, from 10 a.m. to noon at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus.

Ann will be laid to rest in Maplewood Cemetery, Camillus.
