Rose M. (Recckio) Gosson, 89, of Camillus, passed away Friday at Francis House. Born in Montezuma to the late Vito and Frances Recckio, she graduated from Port Byron Central School and resided in Camillus for 53 years. Rose was married on June 23, 1956 to James T. Gosson of Solvay. In 1996 she retired after 27 years as a claims manager for the Young Agency, Inc. Following her retirement, she became a volunteer counselor for 14 years for the Office of Aging whereby she counseled the elderly and newly retirees with questions regarding their health insurance.
She then became president of the Camillus Seniors Club and also became affiliated with CatFISH of Camillus, a volunteer service providing transportation for the elderly to and from doctors’ appointments. Rose received the President Bush Volunteer Service Award in 2005 and the NYS Citizen Volunteer Honoree Award in 2006.
The family would like to thank Hospice of CNY and Francis House for their loving care of Rose.
She was predeceased by her husband, James, in 1993; son, Michael; and brothers, Joseph, Vito, Jr., Anthony and Richard.
Surviving are her children, Mary Frances of Mooresville, NC, Patricia (Rick) Terry of Virginia Beach, VA and James (Dana) of Baldwinsville; grandchildren, Brendan, Kathleen, Maura, James (Irisa) and Samuel Gosson and Reagan and Ethan Hixon; great-grandchild, Riley Rose; and loving friend, Cheri DeStito.
Relatives and friends may call Wednesday, October 13 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus. Face masks are required.
A funeral Mass will be Thursday, October 14 at 10:30 a.m. in St. Joseph’s Church, 5600 W. Genesee St., Camillus. Rose will be laid to rest in St. Mary's Cemetery, DeWitt.
