Rose Cella, 91, of Oswego, and formerly of Camillus, passed away Thursday, February 21, 2013 at St. Luke’s Health Center. Born in New York City on Saturday, February 11, 1922, she was the daughter of Leonard and Irene (Petro) Pettinato. She lived in Bayside, Long Island and Camillus before moving to Oswego in 2009. Rose graduated from Newtown High School. During World War II, she was a member of the Women's Veteran Volunteer Services in Fort Totten, NY. A former communicant of St. Joseph's Church, she was also a member of the Altar & Rosary Society. Rose was a member of the Camillus Elks Lodge #2367 Ladies’ Auxiliary and was active in the American Legion Ladies’ Auxiliary General Pulaski Post and the Marcellus Little Theater. In 2001, Rose was named Mrs. Republican in the Camillus Republican Club. She was also a former member of the Camillus Senior Citizens and Holy Family Seniors. She volunteered at the Sims Store in the Erie Canal Park. Rose was predeceased by her beloved husband of 45 years, Eugene, on June 10, 1991. Surviving are her daughter and son-in-law, Irene and Jan Pashley of Oswego; son and daughter-in-law, Eugene and Marilyn Cella of Westvale; grandchildren, Catherine Cella, Greg Ivanchak, Don (April) Ivanchak and Paul Cella; and great-grandchildren, Seth Cella and Molly Ivanchak. Relatives and friends may call Sunday, February 24 from 3 to 6 p.m. at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Monday in St. Joseph’s Church. Rose will be laid to rest in Greenlawn Cemetery, Warners.
