Ronald F. West

Ronald F. West, 89, of Syracuse, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 18, 2024, at St. Camillus Health & Rehabilitation Center. Born and raised in Syracuse, he lived in Texas and Florida before returning to his hometown in 2017. A proud graduate of Eastwood High School, Ronald furthered his education with an associate degree from Onondaga Community College. He proudly served as a U.S. Army veteran and dedicated 30 years to the Syracuse Police Dept., retiring as a lieutenant in 1993. He also worked as an electrician for the railroad and led security at MacArthur Stadium during the late 1960s.

A valued member of the Syracuse Police Benevolent Assn., Ronald was formerly an active member of the First Baptist Church of Syracuse where he met his wife, Mina. An enthusiastic reader with a particular passion for history, he was also a devoted baseball fan. Ronald enjoyed dancing, traveling, and motorhome camping. His greatest joy was spending time with his family.

Ronald was predeceased by his parents, Leonard and Martha; and sisters, Joyce MacDonald and Katherine Brown.

Surviving are his loving wife of 65 years, Mina; son, David (Cheryl) of Syracuse; daughter, Karen Ann West of Clay; grandchildren, Emily (Ryan) MacIntosh of Baldwinsville, and Heather West of Juneau, Alaska; sister, Janet Baird of Brewerton; and several nieces and nephews.

To celebrate Ronald’s life, relatives and friends are invited to gather on Wednesday, August 28, 2024, from 2 to 3 p.m. at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus. A funeral service will follow at 3 p.m. at the funeral home.

Ronald will be laid to rest in Maplewood Cemetery, Camillus.
